The world, it seems, belongs to the young. When I was young, dreaming about winning a Nobel prize, someone told me that every great scientific discovery is made by people at the beginning of their careers. By the time a scientist reaches 30, they are finished.
It's the same in sports, where people retire at 35, and in music or the arts, where youth is celebrated and elevated and venerated in pop culture. And what about Jesus? Scholars say that he was only 33 years old when he died for the sins of the entire world!
So I guess you could say I'm feeling a little past my prime. Over the hill. Ready to retire. And I won't even hit 40 for a few more years! I'm done. Finito. The not-so-thin lady has sung and they're folding up the chairs.
Okay, so maybe it's not that bad, but in the words of a good friend of mine, "Half my usable life is down the drain!" I feel the biological tick-tick-ticking calling out the words of the Psalm: "Teach us to number our days..." (Psalm 90:12).
So what does Clint Eastwood have to do with this? I don't know if you've noticed, but he's getting OLD, and he's making some of the best movies to come out of Hollywood in recent years. Unforgiven. Mystic River. Million Dollar Baby. Flags of Our Fathers, and Letters From Iwo-Jima. Gran Torino. Changeling. Invictus. Plus (I didn't know this until I looked it up tonight), he's composed the film score for several of his movies, including Mystic River. Not bad for a guy that turns 80 this year.
If you find yourself, like me, starting to feel your life slip away as you think about everything you haven't done, remember... the best is behind you. Or, maybe not. Maybe, just maybe, the best is still ahead of you.
As you face a new day and contemplate what lies ahead, here's a truth you can hold on to: "For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." (Ephesians 2:10).
No matter how questionable your past, know that God is waiting to lead you into a future filled with hope. And that's a promise without an expiration date.

Right! Me too. I am leaning on the promises and principles of Psalm 92:12-15 -THE RIGHTEOUS WILL FLOURISH, they will grow like a cedar of Lebanon;
13 planted in the house of the LORD, THEY WILL FLOURISH in the courts of our God.
14 THEY WILL STILL BEAR FRUIT IN OLD AGE, THEY WILL STAY FRESH AND GREEN,15 proclaiming, "The LORD is upright...
